Daniel Levy is a versatile artist. The firstborn of American Pie star Eugene Levy and Deborah Divine, he drew his first breath and spent his formative years in Toronto, Canada.
Dan majored in film production at York and Ryerson Universities but began his professional path with being a host for MTV Canada. He was involved in several projects, including The After Show, and created a Christmas Special titled Daniel Levy’s Holi-Do’s & Don’ts. In 2009, Levy made an acting debut in the TV film Degrassi Goes Hollywood and went on to have small parts in Modern Family and Coastal Elites.
In 2012, Daniel Levy first appeared on the big screen in the 2012 film Cyberstalker. Among his other credits are Admission, Stage Fright and Happiest Season movies. Additionally, he hosted The Great Canadian Baking Show.
2015 became a breakthrough year for Levy as he created and portrayed the title character in Schitt’s Creek television series. His stellar dad and younger sister Sarah embarked on parts in the show as well. In 2020, Levy became the first representative of show business to earn four Primetime Emmys for producing, writing, directing and acting in a single year. Besides, the show brought him many other trophies, including four Canadian Screen Awards.
Like his character David Rose, Daniel is a gay. He came out to his parents at 18 and did that publicly during an interview to Andy Cohen in 2020. By the way, at 2020 Emmys, Levy channeled his character’s wedding attire and appeared at the ceremony in a skirt suit designed by Thom Browne.
A curious fact: Daniel has his own brand of glasses titled DL Eyewear.
