The name of George Lucas is famed around the world thanks to his fantastic filmmaking talent. In childhood, he dreamed about becoming a racer but quit that idea after a severe car accident. However, George gained his first experience by filming nothing else but car races.
Being a graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, which later named a building after its stellar student, Lucas started his career with making cinema verite and short movies. In 1965, he made a directorial debut with Look at Life short film. In 1969, George launched American Zoetrope production company with Francis Ford Coppola and in 1971, he presented his first feature film, THX 1138.
In 1971, George established legendary Lucasfilm and in 1973, American Graffiti movie brought him popularity along with nominations for Oscar and Golden Globe. But the real recognition came to this talented man in 1977 after he wrote, produced and directed Star Wars. The movie soon turned into a franchise and gained millions of fans though its author wasn’t involved in the creation of all parts.
Besides, George Lucas wrote and produced Indiana Jones franchise plus dealt with the production of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Willow, Labyrinth, The Land Before Time, Red Tails, Strange Magic and some other movies. He also novelized the first Star Wars film and Willow as well as established Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles.
Though Lucas usually works behind the camera, he has some small acting credits. Thus, he appeared in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Men in Black plus Revenge of the Sith.
In 1969, George tied knots with Marcia Lou Griffin. In 1981, they adopted a girl named Amanda, but their marriage was dissolved in 1983. The celebrity later adopted daughter Katie and son Sett single-handedly. In the 1980s, he was romantically linked to music artist Linda Ronstadt. And on June 22, 2013, Lucas espoused entrepreneur Mellody Hobson. Their daughter Everest was born by a surrogate mother later that year.
A curious fact: George’s dog, an Alaskan malamute named Indiana, inspired Star Wars’ personage Chewbacca and the name of Indiana Jones’s main character.
