Iman Abdulmajid is famed for her modeling credits and entrepreneurial activity as well as for being legendary David Bowie’s widow.
Hailing from Somalia, Iman drew her first breath in the family of diplomat Mohamed and gynecologist Marian. She was raised alongside four siblings: Idil, Nadia, Elias and Feisal. In 1975, the girl relocated to the USA to deal with professional modeling. Since then, she had collaborated with dozens of well-known brands, including Calvin Klein and Yves Saint-Laurent.
Additionally, Abdulmajid is an entrepreneur who established the Iman Cosmetics brand plus clothing and accessories line Global Chic. Trying her hand at acting, she had parts in such movies as No Way Out, Surrender, House Party 2 plus guest starred in Miami Vice television series. Furthermore, Iman is an author of three books.
Being 18, Iman Abdulmajid got hitched to Somali businessman named Hassan, but they called it quits in a couple of years. In 1977, she tied the knot with NBA star Spencer Haywood and welcomed a daughter with him named Zulekha in 1978. However, their marriage was dissolved in 1987.
Iman got acquainted with David Bowie at a dinner party in 1990. David fell in love at first sight and knew that she would become his wife. Though the woman had never wanted to be a wife of a rock star, she couldn’t resist her feelings for David. The artist popped the question in Paris and espoused his sweetheart on April 24, 1992, in Switzerland. However, the ceremony was held on June 6 in Florence, Italy. In 2000, the unit produced daughter Alexandria.
Iman was a very caring wife and cooked dinners for her spouse every night. She still mourns his death and states that she will never remarry.
A curious fact: Iman is a polyglot who speaks English, Somali, Arabic, French and Italian.
