Karim Benzema is a European soccer star. Hailing from Lyon, France, he was raised by Algerian parents Hafid and Malika Benzema alongside eight siblings.
Karim fell in love with soccer at 8 and became a student of the youth academy of Olympique Lyonnais in the 1990s. In 2003, he turned professional and joined the main team. Being one of the country’s greatest scorers and a winner of 2008 Bravo Award, he earned 4 League 1 titles plus Coupe de France.
In 2009, Benzema was traded to Real Madrid. Among the trophies he obtained with the royal club are 3 La Liga, 2 Copa del Rey, 1 Supercopa de Espana, 4 UEFA Champions League and 3 Super Cup titles. Besides, the athlete is 4-time FIFA Club World Cup champion.
Additionally, Karim Benzema represented France internationally. Together with the youth team, he won European Under-17 Championship in 2004. In 2006, he joined the senior team and appeared at Euro 2008 and 2012 as well as at 2010 and 2014 World Cups. In 2019, the athlete announced that he retired from Les Bleus but considered the possibility of playing for other countries in the future. Nevertheless, Karim actually stopped playing for France in 2016 after a blackmailing scandal with a fellow player.
In 2010-2015, Benzema was romantically linked to model Chloe de Launay, who gave birth to his daughter Mélia in 2014. In 2016, he started a relationship with Cora Gauthier. Their son Ibrahim drew his first breath in 2017.
A curious fact: in 2014, Karim and another soccer star, Franck Ribery, were accused of sexual involvement with an underage prostitute. However, the charges were later dropped.
