Kate Mara gained worldwide recognition thanks to a great number of movie and TV credits. Hailing from Bedford, New York, she was raised alongside three siblings, sister Patricia (known as Rooney Mara), brothers Daniel and Conor. The families of both her parents, Timothy and Cathleen, were involved in football as her dad’s grandfather founded New York Giants while her mom’s relatives established another NFL team, Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kate fell in love with acting in childhood and practiced her skills at a community theater as well as in school plays. In 1997, she first appeared on television in an episode of Law & Order. The performer later embarked on parts in many other projects, including Nip/Tuck, Entourage, American Horror Story: Murder House, House of Cards, Pose and A Teacher. By the way, she produced the latter while the portrayal of Zoe Barnes in House of Cards brought her an Emmy nomination.
Mara debuted on the big screen in the 1999 film Joe the King. Today, she is most famed for playing in The Californians, We Are Marshall, Transsiberian, 127 Hours, Fantastic Four, The Martian and Captive.
Additionally, Kate Mara is a vegan and an animal rights advocate. She is a spokesperson for the Humane Society.
In 2010-2014, Kate dated actor Max Minghella. In 2015, she got romantically involved with Jamie Bell. They tied knots on July 15, 2017, and in 2019, the spouses welcomed a daughter, whose name is still a big mystery. Besides, Mara is a stepmom to Jamie’s son Jack, whom he shares with his first spouse Evan Rachel Wood.
A curious fact: Kate loves singing and sometimes performs the national anthem at NFL games.
