Lauryn Hill

Being surrounded by music since early childhood, Lauryn Hill decided that music was her vocation in middle school. Being a high school student, she became a member of the Translator Crew band, which later changed its name to The Fugees.

In 1994, The Fugees recorded their first album Blunted on Reality, but they gained much popularity after they presented The Score album in 1996. It reached 6-time platinum certification. However, the Fugees disbanded in 1997.

In 1998, Hill presented a solo album titled The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which became 8-time platinum. In 2001, she recorded a live album MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. Among the accolades earned by the singer are 8 Grammys, 3 American Music Awards, 5 MTV Video Music Awards plus 3 World Music Awards.

In 1991, Lauryn Hill got engaged into acting by playing in a hip-hop styled production of Twelfth Night. Soon, she first appeared on TV in the As the World Turns series. Later, she had parts in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Restaurant films along with narrating Concerning Violence documentary.

In 1999-2000, being tired of her popularity, Hill sought for privacy and didn’t make any public appearances as well as interviews. She dedicated much time to religion plus refrained from watching TV and listening to music.

In the 1990s, Lauryn was romantically linked to Wyclef Jean. In 1996, she began an affair with Rohan Marley, a son of Bob Marley. In 1997, they welcomed their firstborn, Zion David. He was joined by four more children: Selah Louise in 1998, Joshua Omaru in 2001, John Nesta in 2003 and Sarah in 2008. In 2009, the couple called it quits though their romance was always turbulent and they often lived apart. In 2011, the music artist’s youngest kid Micah drew his first breath. The name of boy’s dad is unknown.

A curious fact: in 2013, Hill spent 3 months in a prison for tax evasion.
