Mellody Hobson is a respected name in the world of investment and business. Moreover, she is a spouse of Star Wars creator George Lucas.
Hailing from Chicago, Mellody was raised alongside five elder siblings by a single mother named Dorothy, who earned a living by fixing apartment buildings. After studying international relations and public policy at Princeton University, she was hired by Ariel Investments. Pretty soon, she climbed up the career ladder and became a vice president before obtaining a position of a president in 2000.
Besides, Hobson used to be a chairwoman of DreamWorks Animation and headed The Economic Club of Chicago. In 2018, she became a Vice-Chair of Starbucks Corporation. Mellody is also involved with many other organizations, including her husband’s Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
In 2009, Mellody Hobson created ABC’s show Unbroke: What You Need to Know About Money. Having a kind heart, this woman dedicates much time to philanthropy and runs After School Matters nonprofit developing out-of-school programs for Chicago teenagers. Together with Lucas, she donates millions of dollars to charity.
In 2006, Mellody and George Lucas got acquainted at a business meeting and romantic feelings arose between them. They got hitched on June 22, 2013, at George’s ranch while Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola were among wedding guests. Two months after the nuptials, the spouses welcomed their daughter Everest born by gestational carrier.
A curious fact: actress Vanessa L. Williams shared that her character Courtney Paige in The Good Wife series is based on Hobson.
