Bio

Tracey Lynn Stewart (nee McShane) is an animal rights activist and author. She got into the spotlight thanks to her marriage to legendary television host Jon Stewart.

Hailing from Philadelphia, Tracey studied at California College of Arts and Crafts plus Drexel University and started her career path with working as a graphic designer. Afterwards, she got a degree in veterinary science and was a veterinary technician at the Bronx Zoo.

Besides, Tracey Lynn McShane established an artistic playhouse for families, Moomah Café, that later turned into online blog Moomah the Magazine. She teaches children kindness to animals along with various crafts. In 2015, the woman presented a book for kids titled Do Unto Animals: A Friendly Guide to How Animals Live, and How We Can Make Their Lives Better.

What is more, together with Jon, Tracey runs Bufflehead Farm at which they take care of abused animals. Being the affiliates of Farm Sanctuary, they aspire to end cruelty to farm animals and make people aware of the impact of factory farming on the environment.

Tracey and Jon got acquainted in 1997 when a production assistant of Wishful Thinking, where Stewart played, organized a blind date for them. In three years, Jon popped the question in a rather creative way, through a Will Shortz personalized crossword puzzle. In November 2000, the lovebirds tied knots. And in a year, both Tracey and her spouse made Stewart their legal last name. After failed attempts to get pregnant, Tracey gave birth to their firstborn, son Nathan, via IVF. In 2006, their daughter Maggie became the newest addition to the family.

A curious fact: Tracey is a long-time vegetarian. And in 2015, her spouse stopped eating meat too.
